What's new

TAFE NSW and The Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE) join forces in industry first

The fitness industry in Australia will benefit from a unique agreement signed between TAFE NSW – South Western Sydney Institute and the Australian College of Physical Education (ACPE).

The Agreement incorporates, for the first time, the delivery of Vocational Education & Training (VET) qualifications in fitness into a new degree, the Bachelor of Applied Fitness.

Previously, students who studied with ACPE or another higher education provider had to go to a training organisation such as TAFE NSW to gain further qualifications, in order to work in the industry as a personal trainer, fitness instructor or in a gym. Now, the Diploma in Fitness will be delivered as part of the degree, enabling students to concurrently undertake their degree and TAFE NSW studies. This will allow students to effectively integrate their TAFE NSW and university studies and enter the industry sooner.

Animal welfare boost

Microchipping – TAFE PLUS Statement

Lack of identification is the number one reason for animals remaining unclaimed if they become lost. Because of this, more and more councils are requiring compulsory microchipping of pets. Anyone working in the area who is not a qualified veterinarian, needs to have an implanter’s number which can be gained by undertaking a formal qualification in Microchipping.

This course is ideal for anyone who works with animals, including groomers, pet shop workers, dog walkers, council employees and veterinary nurses, or anyone wanting to expand their services to the pet industry.

The course covers:

  • legislative requirements
  • pre-implantation
  • implantation
  • post-implantation
